As we were flipping though the March 2013 issue of Specialty Food Magazine we came across an article listing the food trends of 2013. It was no surprise to see almonds and quinoa both listed as trends this year.
We’ve noticed that many of our local customers purchase raw almonds or cashews. For the most part they’re making their own almond and/or cashew milk – some customers because they’re vegan and others because they have dietary issues that restrict them from cow’s milk or soy milk. We’ve yet to try making our own almond milk but now that it’s so trendy maybe it’s time to try….
As for quinoa (pronounced keen-wah) it seems that you can’t get enough of this super food Quinoa is such a hit that the United Nations named 2013 the International Year of Quinoa! For those of you who have not tried quinoa it has a similar consistency to couscous but with a bit of a nuttier flavor. It’s delicious as a side dish or even tossed into a salad with a light lemon vinaigrette or ginger dressing.
Hope all you foodies stay trendy this 2013…
